Have been biking through Cabin John/Great Falls area and don't like the crowds. Can I get a recommendation for an out/back day trip that isn't too far, scenic, and may have facilities to stop at? Don't want to spend too much time in the car, but willing to go more west.

On Thursday 8/5 I parked at Point of Rocks, MD and did an out-and-back to Shepherdstown, WV. The scenery in this section is beautiful and the trail is in good condition. The access at Point-of-Rocks is easily accessible from Rt 15, and there are many facilities and places to stop - Brunswick, Harper's Ferry. On this particular weekday there were no crowds anywhere.
