I am riding GAP/C&O starting May 1, 2022 and looking for information about detours. I was told that last year there were several detours around tunnels that were being repaired. Does anyone have information about closed sections of the trail? Thank you.

I road the GAP and C&O late last Fall and encountered only two detours. They were the well discussed detour around the Paw Paw Tunnel and the detour at McMahon’s Mill (~MP 88) on the C&O. You can find trail closure/detour announcements for the respective trails at the following web sites

https://www.nps.gov/choh/planyourvisit/conditions.htm
https://gaptrail.org/updates/

The information there can sometimes be dated so I would recommend that you continue to watch this and other forums for any changes to the status of these trail closures.

Perhaps someone that has ridden the C&O more recently than I can confirm or deny my experiences last Fall.
