Although the McKeesport Loop Trail is not formally part of the GAP Trail, be aware that there has been construction in and along that asphalt trail from the 15th Street Bridge to approximately 25th Street. Although it is currently rideable, much of the that asphalt has been removed leaving a level but rough gravel surface.
Hopefully, the asphalt will be restored once the current construction is complete or, at least, before the upcoming spring riding season.
