I'll be in DC in early March and I was thinking of riding a portion of the trail out and back. Will the trail be too muddy and icy at that point?

Simply put the odds aren’t with you for an enjoyable ride on the unpaved C&O Trail. You may want to consider one of the paved alternative trails in and about DC such as Custis Trail, WOD Trail, Capital Crescent Trail or Mt.Vernon Trail.
