I was under the opinion that it is possible to take the train w/bike from DC to McKeesport to start riding the GAP & C&O trails back to DC?

Not quite. You have to ride the train all the way to Pittsburgh.

The station is about six blocks from Point State Park, on Liberty or Penn Ave. Start by Googgling the locations and ceck out the GAP sight. I also have posted on this sight many times the directions, just look back through the posts.
