We want to bike to the Ruins Project in Whitsett. Appears the bike trail is only suitable for mtn bikes? We have road bikes. Somebody please advise.

You can ride a road bike along the GAP Trail in all but he most inclement weather, e.g.. following heavy rain. Wheels with 28mm tire widths or greater would be more stable and comfortable than narrower tires inflated to high pressures. Under dry conditions virtually any bike can be ridden on the GAP Trail.

The Whitsett Trailhead has a large, paved parking area and covered pavilion with water available. The Ruins Project is on private property. You can request a tour at the mosaic shop nearby.. It is an ongoing project of various types of mosaic art placed on the remnants of the old, cement coal mine structures.
